An Island Artist
Artist and Educator Winston Huggins’ childhood in St. Catherine, Jamaica, became guided when a neighbor acknowledged his drawings and directed him to the Jamaica School of Art in Kingston. It was there that our young lad became drawn to the new (for him) world of graphic expression through letters, fonts and ink, and exposure to the fine arts of drawing and painting and the applied arts of graphic design. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of the tropical Caribbean and its vibrant culture and color, its natural sunsets and sunrise against blue skies; scents and tastes of the island, inspired him to paint and kept him attendant to attending art classes independently from St. Jago High School was a brave new venture and an artist was born!
These art classes provided Winston with an opportunity to test and expand his skills and he discovered his affinity for painting composition and colour, laying a foundation in the power of visual communication.
